About the Pro

Kristian's love for the game of golf began when he first picked up a club at age of twelve. He began practicing and playing in junior tournaments almost immediately. Kristian played high school golf at Martin Luther High School and attended the Professional Golfers Career College in Temecula, Ca. He graduated in 2004 with a degree in Professional Golf Management and began his career as a golf industry professional.

Kristian has nearly done it all in the golf business, from cleaning clubs, parking carts, to working in pro shops selling, repairing, building and fitting clubs and accessories. He has worked in kitchens and on grounds crews, along with being a part of the team that launched Classic Club in Palm Springs, CA. Kristian was on the team that hosted the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic for two years and gained priceless experience running a PGA TOUR event from inside the ropes.

Most recently, Kristian caddied at Erin Hills for seven years, including in the 2011 US Amatuer and various USGA tournaments, as well as looping for aspiring amatuers and mini-tour players. Along the way, he has been privileged to work for highly successful industry professionals and absorb as much of their knowledge as he possibly could. With this he continues to to shape his life-long journey with this wonderful game. One of the many mentors he has worked with was under Andy Spaulding at Broadlands Golf Club where he began to develop his passion for teaching junior golf. Andy has recently been named one of the top 50 junior golf coaches in the country and runs one of the most successful junior programs in the state.

Off the course, Kristian enjoys grilling and smoking meat, or watching sports with his girlfriend Jessyca and his Spanish Mastiff, Deimos.

His goal at West Bend Lakes is to continue to advance the stellar reputation that the Merkel family has established in the West Bend community. Kristian wants to use his skills and passion to develop successfull teaching and junior programs and establish the Lakes as the go-to facility for families and those wanting to learn and grow the game in Washington County.

Types of Lessons

Typical sessions involve driving range time, working on specific shots or clubs. For most general lessons, we can utilize the practice areas at West Bend Lakes at no additional charge. Short game sessions can be conducted on or around the practice green at West Bend Lakes, Horicon Hills, or The Golf Club at Camelot.

If you wish to hit a larger volume of balls or work on longer shots, we are able to do so at the driving range at Horicon Hills, The Golf Club at Camelot or at Paradise Golf & Recreation in West Bend. Range balls at off-site driving ranges are not included in the lesson amount. For only a $15 fee, we are able to use an unlimited amount of range balls at the driving range at Horicon Hills or at the Golf Club at Camelot.

On-Course Playing Lessons are also available, and this type of lesson focuses on course management and tee-to-green strategy to make your scores lower! Lesson fees include golf and power cart fees.
